Heartworm disease, a potentially fatal disease, has been diagnosed in all 50 states. This preventable disease is spread by mosquitos, and affects the heart, lungs, and pulmonary blood vessels of our dogs and cats.
Prevention of the disease is safe and effective. We currently recommend testing for heartworm once a year at your dog's annual exam, and recommend to give heartworm preventives to all dogs, and to cats who go outside, April through November.
